The way it was: All-school play -- 1938

May 5, 2013 - By Alejandra Silva, Staff Writer

Graduation at Riverton High School was approaching in 1938 when the school staged its all-school play at the original RHS gymnasium on "high school hill" on West Main.

The play was titled "The Patsy," described as a "rollicking comedy and a "riotous modern melodrama" concerning a teen-age girl named Patsy and her "madcap family," was directed by Lois Horn, later to gain national recognition as a high school speech and drama coach following her marriage to Kemper Sackman.

A "teaser skit" was performed for grade school students at Jefferson School, followed by the full three-act presentation over the next two days. One was a matinee, the other an 8 p.m. curtain. Admission was 10 cents for the school skit, 20 cents for the matinee show, with reserved seats at the evening performance going for 40 cents, general admission 25 cents.
