Sixth place at 4-A West track for Wolverine boys and girls

May 12, 2013 By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Ashtyn Leisy of the Riverton Wolverines qualified for state in three events Friday and Saturday at the Class 4-A West regional meet in Casper.

The best finish for Leisy came in the long jump with a distance of 16-4.5, putting her third in the regional field.

Leisy finished fourth in the 200 meters in 27.36. The RHS junior was sixth in the 400 meters after crossing the finish line in 1:02.54.

Leisy's teammate Jensyn Pettit ran fourth in the 49.02 in the 300-meter hurdles.

"Jensyn and Ashtyn are injured," RHS co-head coach Jorah Griffith said. "We have kept them out of practice and meets for the last few weeks. They are both going at about 70 percent as far as where they are at healthwise. They just really gutted it out. They did an amazing job this weekend."

The top eight athletes in each event and the top four relays make the state meet.

Riverton's Jordan Settlemire finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 31-6.50.

The Wolverines finished sixth in both the girls and boys regional team standings.

"I thought that we did really well, but it's a little frustrating when you don't get those team points that you are looking for," Griffith said.

"On paper, the girls were supposed to score 20 points in the meet and we came up with 38. I'm pleased with their effort."

Savage third in shot

Lane Savage collected third place in the shot put, measured at 49-8.25 for the Wolverines.

Sean Watts finished sixth in the 100 meters in 11.52.

He placed ninth in the 200 meters, and didn't qualify for the finals. He already has qualified for state in the 200 based on meeting the state qualifying time during the regular season.

Brandon Fullerton 5-9 in the high jump to finish seventh.

Trent Yorgason was sixth (11-10) in the pole vault competition.

Dylan Lewis ended eighth in the discus at 139 feet.

State starts Thursday at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper.
