George McMackin, of Riverton, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at his home after a battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 170 Mountain View Drive. George Montz will conduct the service.
George McMackin was born in Douglas, the son of Art and Thelma McMackin. He went to work in the Gas Hills in the 1960s where he met Joann. They married in 1962. He worked in the Gas Hills, and then in the early 1980s, he and wife had a pet shop called Fins and Feathers. He later went into carpentry work, building decks and add-ons for people. He also did janitorial work.
His family said he loved animals and had lots of tame and wild animals in Douglas and Riverton. His greatest joy was talking to people about the Bible and God's hope for the earth. He also enjoyed serving in the congregation as a minister.
He is survived by his wife, Joann, of Riverton; daughter Rhonda Hallock and her husband Joe of Lander; son Mark McMackin of North Dakota; granddaughter Brittany Swett and her husband Jesse of Lander; grandson Kolby Hallock of California; granddaughter Megan Maiden and her husband Bryan of Cheyenne; great-grandchildren Scarlette, Judah and Noah; brothers Bud McChesney and his wife Mary of Douglas and Alvin McChesney and his wife Phoebe of Douglas; and sister Billie Whitting and her husband Jim of Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Art McMackin; mother Thelma Ostrander; and brothers Larry, Ed and John McMackin.
