May 20, 2013 - The Associated PressLARAMIE -- Construct-ion has begun on a new performing arts center at the University of Wyoming.
The Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts is named in honor of retiring President Tom Buchanan.
The facility is scheduled to be completed in December 2014.
UW Board of Trustees President Dave Bostrom says the center will be a lasting tribute to Buchanan's commitment to the arts and to the unprecedented growth of the campus during his presidency.
Buchanan is retiring this year after eight years as president and a 35-year career at UW.
The project includes renovating portions of the existing Fine Arts building on the east side of campus, along with about 50,000 square feet of new construction. The new space will include the 256-seat Thrust Theatre and the 100-seat Recital Hall.
