Wolverine girls land three on Class 4-A West all-league teamMay 22, 2013 By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor
Three Riverton Wolverines were placed on the Class 4-A West conference soccer squad.
Senior Karissa Kister and juniors Taylor Paskett-Krause and Maci Evans collected the postseason honors.
RHS didn't have any players selected to the all-state team.
"I'm pleased with the kids that we got on there for all-conference," RHS coach Tanya Santee said. "There were a lot of seniors on the all-state team, and that made it more difficult. It's hard when you don't have as good a state (tournament) as you would have liked."
The Wolverines qualified for the Class 4-A state tournament last weekend in Rock Springs, but lost to Laramie and Casper Natrona.
Kister injured her knee during the Class 4-A West regional tournament in Evanston and missed the state tournament.
"I really felt that Karissa would have gotten on the all-state team had she not been injured," Santee said.
Kister brought leadership to the defensive line with her younger teammates.
"That was very big," Santee said. "She worked really hard in the offseason to improve her foot skills. Her teammates always felt really confident when she was there."
Paskett-Krause finished the season with eight goals to lead the attack for RHS.
"She was really competitive and looked to score often," Santee said. "Teams knew that when she got the ball, she was looking to score."
Paskett-Krause came on strong with a late season finish.
"She was willing to make some changes in her game to find more opportunities for herself because we changed our formation when she became the lone forward," Santee said.
Santee said RHS assistant coach Cara McRae primarily worked with the goalkeepers.
"I really think that Maci made huge strides this year," Santee said. "I honestly think Maci is going to improve even more over the next year. I'm excited that we have another year to work with her. She really does look to improve in practice every day."
Santee is looking forward to having am experienced team next year on the field.
"I have nine juniors, and I think that they will all be returning," Santee said. "We will have a huge, experienced senior class coming back."
The Wolverines will take a couple of weeks off before they start back with summer workouts.
