Alice Irene Hawks Carper

Alice Irene Hawks Carper, of Lander, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. She was 89 years old.
Private graveside services were Friday, May 17, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Alice Irene Hawks Carper was born March 20, 1924, in Billings, Mont., the daughter of Mitchell Lee Hawks and Fern Heloise Engle Hawks. She attended the Buckskin Mission at St. Xavier and schools in Billings, Mont., and Hardin, Mont.
Her family moved from Billings, Mont., to Big Horn County when she was in grade school. Their first home in Big Horn County was called "Camp Five."
She married Harry Dallas Carper on Sept. 15, 1942. They were married 41 years before Mr. Carper died Oct. 20, 1983.
Her professional life included being a clothes designer and seamstress, a 4-H instructor, a baker at the Arapahoe School, a manager at the Riverton Bakery, a women's dress shop manager in Lander and a post mistress at Fort Washakie.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Her family said she was a devoted mother and wife, and she had boundless energy and creativity that flowed into every aspect of her life. She was a gifted seamstress and loved playing piano, singing, crocheting, cooking, baking, studying genealogy and spending time with family and friends. During her retirement years she discovered the joy of gardening with seasonal silk flowers.
They said she would light up a room with fun and laughter and she was always game for a "good time" like riding bicycles or four-wheelers, driving trucks or playing football with the boys.
She is survived by her children, Carroll Ann Carper Marrero and her husband Bill, Lyle Dallas Carper, Charles Franklin Carper and his wife Cindy and Judy Irene Carper Gillespie and her husband Robert; grandchildren Shawn Donald Carper and his wife Jeanne, Delia Dallas Carper Garcia and her husband Raul, Debbie Carper, John David Franklin "J.D." Carper and his wife Kristy, Cori Lee Carper Jones and her husband Michael, Charles Gregory Carper, Robert Todd Gillespie, Stefanie Andrea Gillespie Erickson and her husband Peter and Shannon Gina Gillespie Margiotta and her husband Frank; great-grandchildren Clay Emmett Carper, Cara Lee Carper, Kyle Vialas Carper, Vicente Alberto Garcia, Ysabela Salome Garcia, Nieves Daniela Garcia, Meagan Nicole Carper, "R.J." Carper Hand, Brek David Franklin Carper, Alexus "Lexi" Tylar Carper, Jackson Everett Jones, Taylor Leigh Jones, Madison Leah Gillespie, Brooklyn Paige Gillespie, Jacob Grant Erickson, Megan Andrea Erickson, Joshua Robert Erickson, Peter Daniel "P.D." Erickson, Salvator "Sal" Robert Margiotta and Hunter Frank Margiotta; cousin David Hawks and his wife Victoria; nieces and nephews Robert Hawks and his wife Jane, Melvin Hawks, Howard Hawks and his wife Carol, Linda Hawks Warren and her husband Glen Larsen, Frances Hawks Bracken and her husband John and Paul Hawks and his wife Ellie; Shannon and David Killebrew and their son Jacob; and close family friend Gene Warnock.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
