May 28, 2013 - By Andrea Novotny, Staff WriterRiverton's downtown farmers market is returning Wednesday for its second year. It is expected to be larger than last year's market, said farmers market manager Sherry Shelley.
The market will be open every Wednesday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or until vendors run out of goods.
A variety of fresh produce, homemade baked goods, locally raised grass-fed beef and lamb, as well as food prepared at the market will be available from the vendors.
The success of last year's market has drawn in new vendors and motivated returning vendors to produce more goods, Shelley said.
The group that organizes the farmers market, the nonprofit organization Fremont Local Foods, also hopes to have weekly entertainment provided by live musicians every week. Musicians at the farmers market are paid with tips from farmers market attendees.
The group also plans to provide a free children's activity at every market. At least two sidewalk decorating contests are planned in conjunction with the Riverton Recreation Program.
