May 29, 2013 - By Andrea Novotny, Staff WriterThe event, including a youth fair and carnival, draws competitors from at least five other states.
The Spring Spectacular jackpot show, youth fair and carnival will be Friday through Sunday at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton.
Barney Cosner, executive director of the Fremont County fair and rodeo, said the event is good for Riverton's economy because it brings in a lot of traffic.
"All of the families coming through will enjoy the benefits of Riverton, Wyo., for a full weekend, and enjoy the food and lodging here," Cosner said.
There will be three livestock shows over the course of three days. Competitors will pay an entry fee for each animal, the amount depending on the type of animal being shown. A large percentage of those fees will go to a jackpot that will be divided among winners based on their placement.
The rest of the money goes to offset the cost of the spring fair.
The event brings in competitors from at least five other states.
Advanced tickets for the carnival will be available at all Pit Stop locations until Tuesday and at the fair office until Thursday. Advance tickets will be $20 and $25 at the carnival.
There also will be a fair Friday in Thermopolis in conjunction with Riverton's Spring Spectacular. This will give families still traveling a chance to compete all three days.
