May 30, 2013 - From staff reportsA Riverton man was involved in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday in Natrona County that resulted in the death of an 83-year-old Casper woman.
The man, John D. Otto, 42, of Riverton, was uninjured in the incident, which took place at about 7:35 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 20/26 about 59 miles west of Casper.
According to Wyoming Highway Patrol reports, Gloria D. Lesher, 83, of Casper, was driving west in a 2005 Chevrolet Classic when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic.
Otto reportedly was eastbound in a 2007 Ford F650 when he saw Lesher's vehicle cross into his lane. Reports state Otto attempted to take evasive action by braking and steering to the left to avoid a collision, but Lesher's vehicle impacted his truck on the passenger side. The Classic came to rest in the roadway; Otto's vehicle reportedly veered north in a broadside slide, leaving the road and rolling one complete time before stopping.
Lesher was flown from the scene by Life Flight helicopter to the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, where she was pronounced dead just after 2 p.m. Officials said Otto was not hospitalized or treated for injuries. Both individuals were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, and alcohol reportedly was not involved.
