Matilda Marie Bushyhead died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Lander Valley Medical Center. She was 65 years old.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 6, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with Father Phil Wager officiating.
Matilda Marie Bushyhead was born Dec. 12, 1947, in Fort Washakie, the daughter of Louis T. and Christina (Pine) Underwood. She was raised by her adopted parents, Peter Monroe and Victoria Warren SunRhodes. She was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation.
She attended school in St. Stephen's, graduating in 1966. She also graduated from Haskell Institute in 1968, and in 1971 she became a certified teacher's aide from Central Wyoming College.
On Jan. 25, 1974, she married John M. Bushyhead in Riverton.
Mrs. Bushyhead worked as a teacher's aide at Head Start for seven years, at St. Stephen's Indian School for seven years and at Arapahoe School for 10 years.
Her family said she enjoyed going to the 789 Casino and watching her favorite TV programs such as "The Price is Right," "The Young and the Restless" and "Little House on the Prairie."
