Jun 7, 2013 - StaffAirman 1st Class Matthew Ringer was recently awarded Airman of the Quarter for 2013 at Eielson Air Force Base, roughly 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Airmen become eligible for the award through recommendation by their immediate supervisor. They must then compete with other airmen on squadron, group and wing levels before progressing to the base-wide level.
Those competing for the award were evaluated on job performance, individual growth and community involvement. They also were required to appear in front of a review board comprised of officers and senior sergeants where they were tested on their knowledge of military history and heritage, Air Force rules and regulations, and military bearing and appearance.
Ringer is a 2002 graduate of Riverton High School. Before joining the Air Force, he served a two-year mission in Mexico City for his church. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2010.
Ringer is married to Sarah Basset Ringer of Laramie and the couple has two daughters, Chelsea, 2, and Emma, 1. Ringer is the son of Bart and Marian Ringer of Riverton.
