Jun 9, 2013 - StaffMarieta "Rita" Brown, of Lander, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. She was 50 years old.
A funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Father Phil Wagner officiated, and burial followed at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.
Marieta Joan Brown was born March 3, 1963, in Riverton, the daughter of Edward Wesley and Nora (Norse) Brown. She lived in different towns throughout Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado.
She did janitorial and maid work before becoming disabled 12 years ago.
She was of the Catholic faith and had been baptized and confirmed.
Her family said she loved being with her grandchildren, friends and family. She also enjoyed gambling and socializing.
She is survived by her son, Dustin Maldonado; daughter Belem Montoya; brothers Edward Brown and Lynn Brown; sisters Amelia Brown, Eleanor Maldonado and Lorelei Sanchez; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Nora; foster parents Jose and Madelina Montoya; brother Hiram Brown; sister Judith Brown; and niece Brenda Maldonado.
