LVHS girls go 1-1-1

Lander Valley High School girls soccer coach Dean Schaff liked the way his squad put together a 1-1-1 record on Saturday at the Cody Jamboree.
In the season opening day of matches, the Evanston Lady Red Devils pulled out a 2-1 victory vs. the Tigers. LVHS deadlocked Star Valley 0-0 in the second match. The Tigers closed out the jamboree beating Rock Springs 3-1.
"The first and third game we played really well," Schaff said. "The second game we were pretty tired coming off the first game. We were a little flat. "
The matches in the jamboree were two 25-minute periods.
"We got to see a lot of things and make adjustments," Schaff said. "It's going to help us move forward."
Evanston opened the tournament scoring two quick goals vs. the Tigers.
Lander's Taylor Meeks scored her first goal later on in the first half.
"We put a run late on Evanston in the second half, but we couldn't put anything in the net," Schaff said.
Schaff said nothing really excited happened in the tie match with the Braves. LVHS had six shots on goal and the Braves had four.
"Our defense played really good," Schaff said. "All the shots that we marked were pretty good chances. We worked the ball around pretty good for most of the day."
Meeks scored three goals for the Tigers in the two-goal victory. Her first goal came in the first half, and the last two in the final 25 minutes.
"She works really hard so she gets herself a lot of opportunities," Schaff said.
LVHS senior Ashley Von Rein played goalie for the first time on Saturday.
"She made some great diving saves," Schaff said. "She came out and made a few tackles. She had about eight or nine saves per game."
