UW athletes are performing better in school

Jun 13, 2013 - The Associated Press

LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming student-athletes are performing well in the classroom.

All 17 UW men's and women's sports exceed the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate requirements.

The latest APR data was released earlier this week. The APR is a mathematical formula that gauges student-athlete retention and eligibility.

The latest information is from the 2008-09 academic year through 2011-12.

Among its eight men's sports, UW football had the lowest multiyear score of 938. However, its multiyear score has increased every year since 2008-09.

Men's basketball had a score of 940.

Three UW sports had perfect scores of 1,000: men's golf, women's volleyball and women's tennis.

Eleven UW sports had multiyear APR scores of 967 or higher.
