I didn't know that there were some business people in Riverton downtown who had a problem with the farmers market there on Broadway. But after reading the news, I can see what they are driving at.
I have gone by the farmers market a few times, and to me, the location they have is really not all that great in the first place. There isn't anything really wrong with it, but I don't see how it's worth fighting over if it is causing a problem for the businesses that have a building already there and pays wages and taxes, etc.
The Ranger editorial last week made a suggestion on trying it out at city Park. That is what some city council members want to do also.
I guess that would be all right, but to me the best location for it by far is obvious. Put the farmers market in the empty vacant lot that the city already owns at Fifth and Main.
It would still be on Main, but it would be much more visible there. There is plenty of room there to park, and it wouldn't block up a city street downtown.
We have been looking for a use for that land ever since the city bought it. Isn't this the obvious solution?
