Jun 17, 2013 - Ken Prentice, RivertonEditor:
I have some thoughts about the idea of city or county government paying Great Lakes Airlines or another airline to provide better service at our airport. It was brought up in an editorial recently.
We are mostly conservatives around here, but there are plenty of farmers in Fremont County who are getting some kind of subsidy from the government, or have at one time or another. And I remember how Riverton rolled out the red carpet for Walmart and how they ran the utility lines out to the casino for free, and the casino isn't even in the city.
I don't know for sure, but I bet Lander has done some things like this also.
The point I am trying to make is that it is not an outrageous idea to put some money toward a business from the government if we want to save it or attract it.
Gillette has decided to help the airlines there with some money. Other places have done it for their airports. Are they dumber than we are, or are they smarter?
