Jun 18, 2013 - By Katie Roenigk, Staff WriterA 6-year-old girl died Saturday in Riverton when the horse she was riding fell on her, officials said.
Cassidy Cooper, 6, of Cheyenne, reportedly was in Riverton with her father visiting her grandfather's home on Major Avenue.
"They were out Saturday evening riding a horse," Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan said Tuesday. "I guess she was thrown, and then the horse fell on her."
Fremont County sheriff's reports state the horse "reared over backwards" while the girl was riding in the 1600 block of Major Avenue.
McAuslan said the child was taken to Riverton Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the
incident is ongoing, but McAuslan said he does not suspect foul play.
"It was an accident," he said. "A very, very unfortunate accident."
