Man sentenced for motel arson

Jun 21, 2013 - The Associated Press

CHEYENNE -- A federal judge in Wyoming has sentenced a Texas man to two years in prison for his role in the 2010 arson that destroyed the main lodge building of the landmark Hitching Post Inn in Cheyenne.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal sentenced 35-year-old Marcus Trevino, of Grand Prairie, Texas, on Thursday.

Trevino's lawyer told Freudenthal that Trevino served as a lookout when his uncle, Robert Rodriguez of Albuquerque, lighted the fire. Freudenthal earlier this month sentenced Rodriguez to five years in prison.

Another Albuquerque man, Ajay Jariwala, also has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson in the case.

Prosecutors say Jariwala was a principal in the company that owned the hotel and had retained Rodriguez to burn it down for the insurance money. Jariwala faces sentencing in September.
