Make commissioner pay raises subject to voter OK on ballot

Jun 30, 2013 - Jerry Humphreys, Riverton

Editor:

I have an idea about what the Fremont County Commissioners are paid.

Each election year there would be a line on the ballot asking if the current salary for the commissioners should be kept at the current level or allowed to increase as planned.

A super majority of 60 percent of the voters would have to vote against the increase, but if they did then the salary would have to remain the same until the next election and approval by voters.

This way the voters could have some say-so in these automatic pay raises that the commissioners passed for themselves.

I do believe that they deserve to get paid, but they should not just get to give themselves an automatic raise by law when the rest of us have to work for it.
