Real holiday is July 5, when the improper fireworks finally end

Jul 3, 2013 - Saundra Caey, Riverton

Editor:

I consider myself to be as patriotic as the next person, but here is why I usually don't look forward to the Fourth of July.

It is because of all the improper setting off of fireworks. There are supposed to be rules against it, but it is so out of control that if the police do anything at all, it is not nearly enough.

The way I look at it, we are giving people permission to disturb the peace for 24 hours a day ... in the name of patriotism?

To me, July 5 is the real holiday, because I can get a good night's sleep again.
