Gordon W. Schumacher died Sunday, June 30, 2013, of natural causes. He was 69 years old.
There will be no services.
Gordon William Schumacher was born July 12, 1943, in Riverton.
He attended grade school, junior high school and high school in Riverton. He excelled as an athlete while there and played football, basketball and baseball.
After high school he attended barber college in Salt Lake City. He later attended the University of Wyoming where he met Nicki French. They married soon after.
Mr. Schumacher worked in barber shops in Meeteetse and Laramie and eventually owned a barber shop in Riverton. He also mined for years in Wyoming before moving to Winnemucca, Nev., where he eventually retired.
His family said he loved the outdoors and took a special pride in passing down that love to his children and grandchildren. He was a coach to many and inspired youths with his experience. His children benefited from his knowledge of gamesmanship and sportsmanship, and he instilled hard work and character through his actions and words of advice.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Thompson; sons Albert and his wife Annette, Andrew and his wife Joanne, Gordy and his wife Stacy and Garrett; grandchildren Alix O'Neill, William, Jacob, Patrick, Max, Morgan and Madeline; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nicki; father Albert; mother Opal; in-laws Norman and Anna French; brothers-in-law Bob Yenney and Chuck Thompson; and multiple aunts and uncles.
