Feb 6, 2012 - By Christina George Staff WriterAfter months of collecting the required 100 signatures from registered voters residing in Fremont County School District 21, superintendent Richard McClements said the district has filled the petition seeking unification.
"We actually had 101 signatures and it's been certified by Fremont County," McClements said in an interview on Feb. 1. "But it doesn't mean anything."
Despite the recent success in the quest to be unified into a kindergarten-through-12th-grade school district, Fort Washakie's recent drop in enrollment has created another obstacle.
In a resolution McClements presented to the Board of Trustees during its Jan. 18 meeting, he explained that although Fort Washakie's enrollment has consistently exceeded the 500-student requirement for unification consideration, the student count recently dropped into the 490-kid range.
