Jul 24, 2013 - StaffParticipants can help with the reconstruction of the Darcie Zimmer memorial recreation trail in a 1K, 5K or 10K run or walk or a sprint triathlon this Saturday.
That's the message from Go Fremont County as it prepares to have its third annual set of healthy events.
Proceeds from Go Fremont County events will go toward renovation of the Darcie Zimmer Memorial Bike Path that runs parallel to North 8th Street West north of Sunset Drive. The path is named for Darcie Marie Zimmer, a 15-year old girl who died Aug. 21, 1983, after being hit by a vehicle while riding her bike on that street.
For Saturday's walk and run, registration begins at 8 a.m. at Riverton High School just west of Wolverine Field. Walk/run events begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $35.
Triathlon registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at RHS, with the sprint triathlon slated to start at 7:30 a.m. Triathlon events include a 606-yard swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Individual and team entries are accepted, with entry fees set at $50 and $70, respectively.
A helmet is required for the bike portion of the triathlon.
Participants in either the walk/run or the sprint triathlon receive a gift bag, t-shirt and a meal at the post-event barbecue.
Awards will be presented for all events.
