Jul 24, 2013 - StaffThe University of Wyoming football team was picked to finish fourth in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference in the preseason poll of conference media members, released Monday by the league.
The poll is tallied by league-wide media voting, and UW is slated to be in the No. 4 spot in the Mountain Division at the end of the season, behind Boise State, Utah State and Air Force. UW garnered 116 points from the voting, trailing Boise State (245), Utah State (204) and Air Force with 143.
This season marks the first time in conference history for divisional play. Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming make up the Mountain Division, with Fresno State, Hawai`i, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV comprising the West Division. Fresno State was picked to win the West Division.
The two divisional winners will meet in the inaugural MW Championship Game, which will be Dec. 7 and hosted at the home stadium of the divisional champion with the highest BCS ranking.
Since the MW began play in 1999, only six teams chosen by the league media to win the conference crown have actually done so, and only twice has the title been shared by multiple teams.
Wyoming opens the regular season at Nebraska on Aug. 31.
