Marcella Mary Frances Hoffart

Marcella Mary Frances Hoffart, of Hartington, Neb., the mother of Riverton resident Ruth Kusel, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Hartington, Neb. She was 95 years old.

Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, Aug. 6, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge, Neb., with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial followed at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington, Neb. Visitation and a vigil service took place Monday, Aug. 5, at the church. Pallbearers were Mrs. Hoffart's grandsons, John Hoffart, Michael Hoffart, Larry Kusel, Kent Hoffart, Tim Hoffart and Lee Hoffart.

Marcella Bruening was born March 17, 1918, in rural Bow Valley, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Bernadine (Steffen) Bruening. When she was 2 years old, the family moved to a farm on the south edge of Hartington, Neb. In 1935, she graduated from Holy Trinity High School.

She married Harold H. Hoffart on Feb. 14, 1939, in Hartington, Neb. They worked for Dwight Burney on a farm west of town, and in 1945, they moved to a farm east of Coleridge, Neb., in the Norris community.

Mr. Hoffart died April 14, 1979, at the age of 63, and Mrs. Hoffart then moved into Coleridge, Neb., where she worked for several businesses.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Ladies Guild in Coleridge, Neb., was a eucharistic minister for many years, and also was a member of Christian Mothers.

She was a member of the Norris Homemaking Club, and her family said she enjoyed line dancing, playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles and traveling to visit her children. She made many visits to Riverton, and she was an enthusiastic baseball fan and followed the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.

She is survived by her four children, Ruth Ann and Henry Kusel of Riverton, Jerry and Jean Hoffart of Hartington, Neb., Galen and Leslie Hoffart of Coleridge, Neb., and Randy and Rebecca Sutherland Hoffart of Hartington, Neb.; daughter-in-law Joann Hoffart of Coleridge, Neb.; grandchildren Larry Kusel, Shawn Peck and Michele Kusel of Riverton; great-grandchildren Randy Kusel, Amanda Kusel, Robert Peck, Jacob Reynolds and Zane Reynolds, all of Riverton; and good friend Kate Hansen of Coleridge, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; son Larry Hoffart; infant son John Francis Hoffart; and brothers Fredolin "Fritz," Edgar and Marcus "Mike" Bruening.
