Aug 21, 2013 - From staff reportsThe Cowboy State Stock Horse Association will have the final two shows of its summer series this weekend at the Pavillion outdoor arena. The shows begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
There will be $1,500 in prize money each day, and there also will be a fun cattle sorting competition for CSSHA members Saturday evening.
Working cow horse competitions pit horse and rider against one cow in the arena and show off the skills required for controlling cattle by maneuvering them to turn back and forth on the fence and run a figure-eight pattern, usually at a dead run. A reining pattern with sliding stops and 360 degree spins also is part of the competition.
The public is welcome to attend this free event.
For more information, call show directors Dave Clark at 349-0552 and Ross Thornock at 709-7926.
