Aug 21, 2013 - The Associated PressCASPER -- A 37-year-old Wyoming man is headed back to prison for beating his new wife hours after their wedding.
U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal sentenced Keith Allen Smith, a Northern Arapaho tribal member, to eight years in prison. She also ordered him to pay nearly $9,300 to cover the woman's medical care.
Smith pleaded guilty under a deal with prosecutors.
They say he developed a relationship with the woman through Facebook while serving time for another assault. She moved to the Wind River Indian Reservation and they married June 24 after his release.
U.S. Attorney's spokesman John Powell said they started arguing in a car after drinking on their wedding night. He said she escaped by jumping out while it was going about 40 mph.
