Aug 27, 2013 - StaffMarcela Alcantar de Vargas, of Riverton, died Aug. 23, 2013, in Fruita, Colo. She was 58 years old.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at United Methodist Church in Riverton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the church with a luncheon afterward.
Marcela Alcantar de Vargas was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, the daughter of Antonio Alcantar Cortes and Rafaela Delgado Regalado.
She married Jesus Vargas in April 1972. They lived together in Mexico for five years, and then relocated to Riverton where she lived for 40 years. The couple had four children.
She worked at H&B Rentals for 17 years while also raising her children and taking care of her husband.
Her family said she was a special person to many people, and she has been described by others as giving, kind-hearted, sweet, thoughtful and one-of-a-kind. They said she was extremely proud of her family and welcomed all to her home, heart and family. She was an amazing cook and used her talents to serve, support and comfort people in their time of need. She always treated all as friends and treated no one as a stranger.
She is survived by her children, Maria Vargas of Riverton, Jesus Vargas of Ontario, Calif., Gilberto Vargas of Riverton and Beatriz Jones of Fruita, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Antonio Alcantar and sister Teresa Alcantar.
