Sep 4, 2013 - By Katie Roenigk, Staff WriterOfficials are investigating a potential homicide that was discovered north of Riverton on Wednesday morning.
A civilian walking on the Rails to Trails pathway near Comanche Street at the All Nations Trailer Park reportedly called police before 8 a.m. Wednesday to report seeing a body nearby.
When officers arrived on scene, they said they found two unresponsive people in the area, and one was deceased. The other was transported to Riverton Memorial Hospital.
"At this point in time the investigation is being approached as a homicide," Undersheriff Ryan Lee said.
He couldn't release information about the gender, age or place of residence for either victim.
"We haven't made a positive ID on anybody at this point in time," he said.
He also couldn't say anything about the condition of the people found --whether they were bruised or what kind of clothes they were wearing. He didn't know the status of the person at RMH, either.
Responders on scanners were heard talking about a woman who had been severely beaten around the head. She reportedly still was breathing but was unable to talk at the time of the response on scene.
The investigation will continue through the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, the Riverton Police Department and the Fremont County Coroner's Office. Lee said he would have more information Thursday. Coroner's officials could not be reached by press time.
