Mar 28, 2012 - The Associated PressLARAMIE (AP) -- The University of Wyoming says a test of its text notification system was successful.
More than 13,000 UW students, faculty and staff members received a text message on their cellular phones within minutes after it was sent last Thursday during a system-wide test of UW Alert.
An e-mail message also was sent to all exchange users.
In the event of a real emergency, those signed up for the UW Alert system would have received specific instructions. Also, a message was linked to digital signs on campus, which can display the same messages delivered via text to students and employees in the event of an emergency.
The text alert system is one of many safety initiatives in place at UW to quickly reach as many members of the university community as possible
