The body of a man found dead Wednesday morning on the Rails to Trails pathway north of Riverton was scheduled for an autopsy Thursday, officials said. Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan wouldn't release the victim's name or age until after the procedure. "I'm fairly certain I know who it is, but I'm going to get fingerprints from the autopsy today and confirm it," McAuslan said Thursday. He said a woman who was found unresponsive near the body was airlifted to the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper on Wednesday to be treated for injuries. Emergency responders at the scene were heard talking about a woman who had been severely beaten around the head. She reportedly was still breathing but was unable to talk. McAuslan said he didn't know the woman's condition Thursday. The coroner's office is working with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office and Riverton Police Department on the investigation, which is ongoing. Officials said they met together at about noon Thursday to discuss their plans moving forward. Homicide A civilian walking on the Rails to Trails pathway near Comanche Street at the All Nations Trailer Park called police before 8 a.m. Wednesday to report seeing a body nearby. When officers arrived on scene, they said they found two unresponsive people in the area, and one was deceased. "At this point in time the investigation is being approached as a homicide," Undersheriff Ryan Lee said. He couldn't release information about the gender, age or place of residence for either victim. He also couldn't say anything about the condition of the people found --whether they were bruised or what kind of clothes they were wearing.
