This closure is within the Popo Agie Wilderness on the Washakie Ranger District. A horse carcass was discovered in the area and bears already have been visiting the site to feed. This closure is in place to protect human life and provide public safety. Any violation of this order is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
