Joseph Daniel Lepp, of Riverton, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at home. He was 87 years old.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Davis Funeral Home. Pastor Doug Hill will officiate. A viewing will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Davis Funeral Home.

Joseph Daniel Lepp was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Torrington, the son of John Albert Lepp and Katherine Oschner Lepp. He attended Happy Hollow Country School north of Torrington.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Campaign and was honorably discharged in 1946.

On March 20, 1948, he married Alberta Mae Smith in Torrington. Together they raised two daughters, Emma Lou and Sandra Mae.

Throughout his life he worked as a farmer, at Farmers Exchange Elevator, as a driller at Union Carbide Uranium Mine and as a landlord of rental property.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His family said he enjoyed outdoor activities, including fishing, camping, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alberta; daughters Emma Applehans and her husband George and Sandra Maxson and her husband Gordon; grandsons Scott Applehans and his companion Candace Summerville, Dan Applehans and his wife Cori, Matt Maxson, Mark Maxson, and Mike Maxson and his wife Brandi; eight great-grandchildren; sister Eva Steinmetz; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine; brothers Albert Lepp and Henry Lepp; and sister Freida Steinmetz.
