Tigers bounced hard by Star Valley Braves

Lander is 0-2 on the football season heading into this Friday's home opener vs. Jackson.

Star Valley chalked up 469 total yards of offense in a 36-0 victory Friday night over the Lander Valley High School Tigers on the football field in Afton.

The win was the first one of the season for Star Valley after a season-opening loss to Snake River, Idaho.

The Tigers and Star Valley are in different conferences this year.

"We had our moments, but in the end we were unable to sustain any type of offensive or defensive success," LVHS coach Doug Hughes said. "Star Valley had a very physical line.

We were unable to control the line of scrimmage, which made it a very difficult night."

LVHS is 0-2 on the season. The Tigers return home to face Jackson for their season opener at Bill Bush Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday.

Jackson pounded Rawlins 56-21 on Friday for its first victory of the year.

Jackson is 1-1 on the season.

The game is the final non-conference game on the schedule for Lander.

"We are excited to play at home this week. We will have to have a good week of preparation to be successful," Hughes said.

LVHS entertains Torrington Sept. 27.

Burton ran for 226 yards with one touchdown. He had 327 all-purpose yards.

LVHS held its own in the first quarter with Star Valley.

The home squad only built a 9-0 lead.

After Star Valley blocked a LVHS punt and recovered on the 2-yard line, the Tigers kept the Braves out of the end zone. Star Valley kicked a short field goal.

In the second quarter, Star Valley scored three times in a span of 10 minutes.

Eric Pantuso had a 15-yard touchdown run at the 11:18 mark.

Burton followed it up with a 15-yard touchdown run of his own with nine minutes left on the scoreboard.

Star Valley finished the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown reception by Sam Gertsch from Reese Hiibell to take charge of the contest.

Jack Mazurie had 11 carries for 20 yards for Lander offense. Noah Rohrbacher managed nine carries for 51 yards.
