Betty DuRyea, of Riverton, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Help for Health Hospice Home. She was 80 years old.
Per her request, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services. There will be a family memorial service at a later date.
Betty Jean Christian was born July 19, 1933, in Dahlonega, Ga., the daughter of Almond Lee and Mamie Gertrude (Hicks) Christian.
On May 18, 1953, she married Harry DuRyea in Winchester, Va. Together they raised two daughters. The celebrated 56 years of marriage before Harry passed in 2009.
Her family said her main enjoyment in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and the children she cared for. She loved each child she cared for as her own, and they fondly considered her their extra grandma.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Hugh) Johnson of Rock Springs and Patsy (Kelly) Fife of Riverton; grandchildren Lindsay (Shawn) Kelley of Hasting, Neb., Darci Johnson of Rock Springs, Jeff Fife of Laramie and Bryan (Shawnte) Fife of Riverton; great-grandchildren Maddison Johnson, McKenzie Johnson, Keagen Fife and Emerson Kelley; sisters Barbara Grindle and Glenda Moffet; brothers Charles Christian and James Christian; sisters-in-law Lori Christian and Betty (Joe) Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents Almond and Mamie; brother A.L. Christian; and sister Magdalene Crowell.
