Sep 28, 2013 - From staff reportsRiverton's summer recreation program, R Recreation, hosted its three-week Summer Academy in June. During that timeframe, 157 classes drew 1,282 school-aged participants. Twenty-four adult instructors and 13 student employees were hired.
R Recreation, which is administered through Central Wyoming College, also introduced a half-day "Pre Summer Academy" program this year for children in grades K-2. Classes as part of the new program each were filled to capacity, with parents requesting that the activities be extended to cover full days in 2014.
CWC also used the summer program to support other community endeavors: R Recreation helped with the Wyoming Association of Municipalities convention by providing day trips for the children of adult attendees. R Recreation employees offered games for community members during the Rails to Trails Riverwalk event this summer, and the program provided youth activities during the weekly farmer's market in downtown Riverton.
The report was shared with the CWC Board of Trustees this month.
