Oct 10, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff WriterThe Riverton Lady Wolverines host two key Class 4-A West volleyball matches this Friday and Saturday in Wolverine Gym.
With two wins, RHS will make solid progress in locking up the second seed for the upcoming regional tournament Oct. 25-26 in Wolverine Gym and in gaining an automatic bid to the state tournament at the Casper Events Center the following week.
The Lady Wolverines host Green River on Friday, a team they dominated on the road earlier this month in three straight sets. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
In perhaps their most important match of the season, the Lady Wolverines host Evanston at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Last Saturday, the Lady Wolverines jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and were up 11-8 in the third set before Evanston stormed back to win the final three games and take the match.
"We're both 4-3 in the conference. It's a pretty big game. But more important, we need to know that we can beat this team. We win this weekend, we know we can win, and if we see them anywhere else we will have that confidence," RHS head coach Adrian McNamee said.
Evanston has rebounded from a loss to Bridger Valley (Lyman) a week ago to handling Riverton last weekend and Rock Springs in straight sets on Tuesday.
"We have to start playing with more confidence and aggression. That is our goal that we need to achieve to push us in post-season play," McNamee said.
After their homecoming matches Friday and Saturday, Riverton will travel to Lander for a rare Monday match against the Class 3-A Tigers on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse.
