RHS tennis teams near bottom of pack at state

Two wins were recorded by the Riverton Wolverines at the state tennis tournament Monday through Wednesday in Gillette.

On the boys side, the Riverton doubles team of Virgil Morrison and Jon Fraley went 1-2 in the double-elimination bracket.

The win for the RHS tandem came over a Torrington team 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 1 doubles position.

A Rawlins team ended Morrison's and Fraley's stay at the state tournament in a 6-0, 6-4 win.

Than Esposito and Ryan Childers won a 6-1, 6-4, decision over a Torrington pair in a consolation match in the No. 2 doubles bracket.

The state tournament was postponed from last week to Monday because of the snowstorm.

Team standings

The wins gave the Wolverines two points in the boys team standings.

RHS finished 14th in the 16-team field. Laramie won the state boys team.

The RHS girls did not socre and finished 16th. Gillette put up 49 points for the team title. Laramie was second (43) and Casper Natrona came in third (43).
