The way it was: State cross country -- 1993Oct 13, 2013 From staff reports
The high school cross country postseason begins this week with regional action preceding the state meet. In 1993 Wyoming's top high school cross country runners came to Fremont County in October for the all-class state meet at the Riverton Country Club.
It was one of the finest countywide performances ever in the event. Riverton's Bennie Ridgley won the first of her four straight state championships for the Riverton girls in Class 4-A.
The Wyoming Indian High School boys and girls teams both won Class 2-A state championships. For the girls, Elma Brown placed second overall, Faith Montoya sixth, and Theresa Brown seventh. Kevin Tweed, Sterling Howell and Charlie Howell all placed in the top 10 for the boys to earn all-state recognition.
Bryce Phinney of Riverton also was all-state for his eighth-place finish in the Class 4-A boys field, and Landers Jack Cadman and Jenny Rhoads were all state in Class 3-A.
