Chiefs, Tigers wrap regular XC season; regionals Friday

Wilson Clifford finally figured out how to beat Micah Whiting in a cross country race.

The Wyoming Indian senior completed the Rock Springs Invitational Friday in a time of 17:58.54 to end sixth in the boys race.

Whiting, of Lander, ended in 18:00.04 to come in eighth. Ricky Faure of Rock Springs won the title in 16:33.59. Faure's teammate Krey Ramsey was second at 17:49.70.

Faure is the favorite to win the Class 4-A state individual title in a couple of weeks in Sheridan. Clifford is the defending Class 2-A state champion.

Whiting had beaten Clifford in races in both Riverton and at the Lander Invitational.

WIHS finished fourth in the team standings in Rock Springs with 106 points. Lander was fifth (117 points). Rock Springs finished first with 25 points. Evanston was second (54).

Lander now heads to the Class 3-A West conference meet at Cody. Wyoming Indian is in the conference meet in Thermopolis. Both the races are Friday.
