Prosecutors on Monday charged Wendall George Moss, 28, with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
The victim, Darrell Moss Jr., 30, of Riverton, was airlifted to the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper to be treated for his injury.
As of Sunday he was in stable but critical condition, and by Thursday officials said he had "improved dramatically."
"I believe he's still hospitalized, (but) I think he has a date he's expected to be discharged," Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee said Thursday.

Monroe Ave., space 18. Officials said he was bleeding from a single stab wound to the chest.

Wendall Moss was located soon afterward and arrested for aggravated assault and battery, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The attempted second-degree murder charge came later, and it carries a penalty of 20 years to life in prison.
Moss remains in custody on a $500,000 cash bond. He next faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Riverton Circuit Court.
