First-time appearance for Douglas in Fremont County Football Festival

Oct 18, 2013 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Douglas will play for the first time in the annual Fremont County Football Festival on Saturday in Riverton.

Douglas is bringing a group of sixth-graders to play against a Riverton team.

The two teams battle each other at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Riverton Junior Football League Field.

"I think that Douglas is going to be pretty tough," RJFL president Brett Watson said.

Riverton plays Powell at 3:30 p.m. to end the day.

"Riverton has a pretty tough schedule," Watson said.

Watson said Powell and Star Valley always bring solid teams to the festival.

Riverton head coach Jason Campbell will lead the 16 sixth-graders playing Saturday.

Campbell coached the Cowboys to a perfect record in the regular RJFL season.

Watson said there are at least eight players from the Cowboys on the team's roster.

The Packers, Bears and the 49ers all have players on the Riverton sixth-grade team.

"I think the Riverton team will be pretty tough," Watson said.

Riverton only had four practices this week to prepare for the one-day event. The Cowboys beat the Packers 32-0 last week in the RJFL title game.

"The biggest key is for them to go out and play hard," Watson said.

The games in the festival consist of 15 plays per quarter.

Lander plays Cody at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lander and Jackson at 2:30 p.m.
