Apr 3, 2012 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports EditorCentral Wyoming College scored all of its points in the goat-tying event on Sunday to place fourth in the women's team standings.
The Rustlers earned 230 points for their middle-of-the-pack finish at the Colorado State University rodeo in Fort Collins, Colo.
Chadron State College was first at 510 points, University of Wyoming second (300 points) and Gillette College third (285 points).
CWC's Traci Hinman had a two-ride time of 13.2 seconds in goat tying for her runner-up finish.
"Traci made two good runs," CWC rodeo coach Rick Smith said.
Jacalyn Walker was fifth (13.7), and Lacey Tech placed sixth (5.8). Tech didn't have a time in her second performance.
"In the goat tying they are ready to explode," Smith said. "They are getting their feet under them. They looked fast and sharp."
Those were the only points scored by CWC in Fort Collins.
"They need to step up in the breakaway competition and the team roping," Smith said. "We had a couple of things happen that kept us from scoring a lot of points."
The Rustlers remain first in the Central Rocky Mountain regional standings (2,105 points), Gillette College is second (1,770) and Northeastern Junior College third (1,523.33).
"We have about a one-rodeo advantage in the regional standings," Smith said. "Our team is probably going to start scoring a lot more points because they are more relaxed."
The Rustlers compete Thursday through Saturday at the the Eastern Wyoming College rodeo in Torrington.
The rodeo starts a day earlier because of Easter on Sunday.
"They just move everything ahead," Smith said. "The format is the same. I don't think that it will bother these guys at all."
CWC will compete April 20-22 at the Casper College rodeo.
The rodeo regular season ends April 27-29 at the University of Wyoming rodeo in Laramie.
